  1. Above artifact is displayed in Museum of North Texas History in Wichita Falls. Accompanying display tells that hoof was taken from dead horse killed in the apprehension of two bandits who held up City National Bank. They were lynched. Hoof was made into a jewel box which I found in the home of Mr and Mrs Alfred Carrigan (nee Lucy Barwise, daughter of J.H. Barwise when I would go there as a child. I was fascinated by it and heard the story of the robbery told to me by my mother, Nina Barwise DeMere. I (Howard DeMere) lived just a block down the street at 909 11th.

  2. Hello Howard,
I am Joseph Carrigan Dolman, Jr., a great-great grandson of Joseph H. Barwise. I was born in Oklahoma City in 1948, and I happened upon your blog this morning. Thanks so much for the detailed family history.
Somewhere in my mom's archives are photographs (or maybe it's a home movie) of you playing the ukulele in our living room in Oklahoma City circa 1950. Dad, who passed away in 1983, spoke of you often.
As for me, I was a newspaperman for nearly four decades. I now make a living writing speeches and such. I live in New York City but get out West whenever I can.
All the best to you and yours.
    Sincerely,
    Joseph Dolman
